Mason Shelton is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who specializes in hands on care of the spine & extremities. He is certified in the Schroth Method for Scoliosis Rehabilitation. After growing up in Western NC, Mason attended Wake Forest University where in 2003 he received a BSc in Health & Exercise Science. He then attended East Carolina University for graduate studies in Physical Therapy.
For 3 years, at ECU, Mason had the unique experience of running a research experiment in a new state of the art biomechanics lab. Using 8 cameras and force plate measurement systems, he studied male vs female joint mechanics during a single leg landing (similar to landing from a rebound) and the effects that foot orthotics had on the lower extremity joints. Mason & his lab partner even won the NC state student research award for their work.
Following graduation, he moved to Asheville, NC and spent the next 7/8 years mentoring under a nationally known PT & Educator while pursuing an aggressive Continuing Education path. Mason’s joy in helping people has led him to practice with an eclectic manual therapy (hands-on) and postural restoration based approach that looks at the Whole Body not just the symptoms. He became certified in the first level of an unique German-based Scoliosis Rehabilitation Approach (Schroth Method) in 2013. In 2016 he became one of a select few PT's in the US to achieve the second and final level of certification in the Schroth Method. Mason enjoys working in a small private office providing one-on-one care with the understanding that: your goals are his goals.
When not in the office Mason runs, goes fly fishing, plays with his puppies and in the summer tends his Dahlias. His wife Susan is the best thing that ever happened to him, and they love living in the heart of Western North Carolina. Susan is a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker King and local equestrian trainer, specializing in dressage and eventing. (She is also an accomplished self-taught website designer, as you can see)
